Kabuto King floats making the 1st Edition Kabuto PSA 10 a 'pop 1' by buying and deactivating every copy
The collector known for cornering 1st Edition Kabutos suggested a way to turn his PSA 10 into the only one: buy every other copy and deactivate the certs. The replies split between jokes and a real debate about pop control.
The hobby's most dedicated Kabuto collector proposed something on Monday that was half joke and half business plan. Kabuto King, who collects 1st Edition Fossil Kabutos, posted that "it is possible to make Kabuto 1st edition Fossil PSA 10 a pop 1" by "buying and deactivating all the certs."
He has not done it; the post is an idea, and it drew about 405 likes and nearly 60,000 views by Monday afternoon. The replies ranged from people offering to sell him their copies to a more serious thread about whether population reports can be gamed by a single buyer.
The mechanics are real. PSA will deactivate a cert at the owner's request, for example when a card is cracked and resubmitted, and the population report reflects it. A collector who owned every other PSA 10 could, in theory, make the pop report say one.
Why collectors should care: population counts drive prices across the hobby, and this is a reminder that they are a record of certs, not of cards. For a low-pop card, a single motivated collector can move the number.
