Neo Genesis Holo Typhlosion PSA 10 sets a record at $366,000
A 2000 Neo Genesis Holo Typhlosion #17 in PSA 10 sold for $366,000 at Goldin, the highest public sale for the card.
Gen 2 joined the six-figure club again on Monday. Goldin reported that a 2000 Pokémon Neo Genesis Holo Typhlosion #17, graded PSA 10, sold for $366,000 in its Pokémon 30th Anniversary Auction, an all-time high for the card.
Neo Genesis was the first set of the Johto era, and its holos are notoriously hard to grade: the 2000-era printing left many copies with surface and centering issues, so PSA 10 populations are tiny compared with Base Set. Typhlosion sits with Lugia as one of the set's two headline holos.
The result lands in the same auction that produced the $3.08 million Trophy Pikachu and a record for a sealed EX Deoxys box, which Goldin says grossed nearly $29 million overall.
Why collectors should care: the money is reaching past Base Set. If a non-Charizard Gen 2 holo clears $366,000 in a 10, the gap between PSA 9 and PSA 10 copies of other early holos is likely to keep widening.
